The car lunged forward with barely a wiggle from the rear as the tires found traction. Aston claims a 0–62 mph time of 2.5 seconds, which translates to a 0–60 mph time of about 2.3 seconds. The speed is exhilarating, but what truly sets the Valhalla apart is its remarkably flat torque curve. Ninety percent of the peak 811 lb-ft of torque is available from 2,500 rpm to 6,700 rpm, meaning the car pulls hard and relentlessly. There is no lull in the acceleration; it just keeps coming, powerful and consistent. One slight disappointment for traditionalists might be the V-8’s redline of 7,000 rpm. While the engine produces immense power, it doesn’t have the screaming high-revving character of a naturally aspirated V-12. The sound experience is a symphony of electric motors, turbos, induction, and exhaust. While it’s certainly loud and engaging, it’s not a sound that will be etched into the history books. There’s just so much happening beneath the surface that the audible experience can’t keep up. The Track: Engineering in Motion The real magic of the Valhalla is unleashed on the track. At Spain’s Circuito de Navarra, a 2.7-mile medium-speed road course, the car’s aerodynamics, torque vectoring, and braking system shine. The Race mode is essential for track use. While Sport+ dumps a huge amount of electric boost to the wheels, draining the battery quickly, Race mode meters the electric assist to prevent the battery from ever running out. This strategy holds back up to 15 percent state of charge, ensuring consistent performance. As Kay explained, Race mode prevents the “noticeable reduced performance after a lap or two because it will start reining it in because it derates [the battery], but Race mode never does that—it’s overall the most efficient and usable.” This focus on consistency allows drivers to concentrate on driving without worrying about depleting the battery. As Angus MacKenzie reported previously, the Valhalla, despite its incredible capability, feels remarkably benign. It’s incredibly stable, never threatening to throw the driver off-course. For those seeking a raw, dramatic experience with snapping oversteer and big slides, the Valhalla might not be the first choice.
