The Las Vegas Concours: A New Titan in the World of Elite Automotive Gatherings The term “concours d’elegance” has traditionally evoked images of manicured lawns, rare automotive treasures, and hushed admiration. For decades, the benchmark for these events has resided in Pebble Beach, where the Monterey Car Week draws the world’s wealthiest collectors and discerning enthusiasts to witness automotive history. However, a seismic shift has occurred in the landscape of high-end automotive events. While The Quail has long been the sophisticated darling of the supercar set, the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas has emerged with such astonishing force that it may very well be the new apex of the industry. As a connoisseur of the automotive world with over a decade of experience attending exclusive gatherings, I can attest that the question of which event reigns supreme is a recurring one. Is the Goodwood Festival of Speed superior? How does it stack up against the Goodwood Revival, Amelia Island, Moda Miami, or Retromobile? The Audrain? These are all valid queries, but today, the conversation centers on a new contender. For many years, Pebble Beach has maintained its undisputed position as the king of the concours. Yet, the heir to this throne, The Quail, is now facing a formidable and unexpected rival. The rise of the Las Vegas Concours marks a significant inflection point in how global brands showcase their latest creations and how enthusiasts experience them.
Why the Shift to Las Vegas? The Quail has traditionally served as the essential appetizer to the main event on Sunday at Pebble Beach. However, for a growing segment of the automotive community—particularly those drawn to the allure of late-model and new-generation supercars and hypercars—The Quail has long since eclipsed the formal concours. I have lost count of how many friends attend Monterey Car Week only to leave on Sunday morning, uninterested in “old cars.” The tragic demise of the Geneva International Auto Show left a massive void in the supercar calendar, a void that The Quail has filled commendably. Consider the evidence. The Lamborghini Aventador debuted at Geneva in 2011, followed by the ultra-exclusive Veneno in 2013. When Lamborghini replaced the Aventador with the Revuelto, they opted for an online unveiling. However, the Temerario (the Huracán’s successor) made its first public appearance at The Quail in 2024. Similarly, the seven-figure Fenomeno debuted at the 2025 Quail. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in Geneva in 2016, but both the Divo (2018) and the Mistral (2022) made their worldwide debuts at The Quail. These examples are far from isolated; they represent a growing trend where manufacturers choose The Quail as their primary launch venue. This established supremacy made me confident that The Quail’s position was secure. Until this past Halloween, that is. Attending the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, officially known as the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, challenged that assumption. I had attended the 2024 edition and found it enjoyable, albeit provincial. The cars were impressive but rather predictable. Frankly, had it not been for a project with Czinger that brought me as a guest, I might not have attended this year. But I am profoundly grateful that I did. The Scale and Scope of the Wynn Las Vegas Concours What immediately strikes an attendee at the Wynn is the sheer volume of hyper-exclusive machinery. The organizers achieved the seemingly impossible: they secured 48 Bugatti Veyrons for the lawn. Out of the 450 Veyrons ever built and the 100 sold in North America, 48 were present in Las Vegas. Well, 49, as Bugatti also brought a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to celebrate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, alongside a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the upcoming 18-cylinder hybrid Tourbillon. Displaying more than 10% of all Bugatti Veyrons ever produced in one location is a feat that continues to leave me in awe. The younger generation of enthusiasts certainly appreciates Paganis, as evidenced by the display of over 40 of these extraordinary machines. While I didn’t get an exact count—I was too busy drooling over the Veyrons—the collection included several Zondas, including a Zonda Revolution (one of only five ever made), dozens of Huayras, a multitude of Utopias, and, most notably for The Quail, the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster. Pagani plans to produce only 10 of these at a staggering price of $7 million before taxes and tariffs. For those interested, Apple’s Tim Cook owns the mint green one that was displayed in Vegas. Regardless of your personal preference for these carbo-titanium extroverts, the fact that the 2025 Las Vegas Concours was the largest Pagani gathering ever held in North America is significant. Furthermore, when Horatio Pagani—who was honored onstage by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to car design—and his team choose to introduce a new car at an event, it speaks volumes. To put the scale into perspective, the number of Paganis present exceeded the annual output of the factory. For those who favor Italian engineering, the Lamborghini section was equally breathtaking. The 2025 Wynn Vegas Concours featured the largest gathering of Lamborghinis in history. Again, I did not count, but the estimate was around 230 cars out of the total 600 vehicles present that Saturday. This is simply mind-blowing. Among these 230 cars were a Veneno Coupe (one of only three ever sold to the public; the factory retained a fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario Coupe (one of 20), a Centenario Convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time I witnessed such an assembly of these “few-offs” (as Lamborghini now calls them) was at the factory museum. It was a flabbergasting display of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites. To maintain brevity, I am omitting mentions of the Koenigseggs, the Gumpert Apollo, the Czingers, the Nilu, the McLaren Project Endurance race car debut, the judged vehicles (which included a former, insane Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer 26/120/180 that also won pre-war Best of Show), the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. The sheer variety of these vehicles alone makes the Wynn Vegas Concours one of the most impressive automotive spectacles in the world.
What Could Possibly Come Next? Two questions dominated the conversations I had with fellow attendees at the Wynn Vegas Concours. The first was the obvious: “How on earth are they going to top this next year?” I have no idea, but Godspeed to the organizers at Wynn. The second, and frankly far more intriguing, query came from the OEM car manufacturers: “Should we even bother attending The Quail next year?” It is a valid question. Perhaps we should also say godspeed to The Quail. Here are a few facts that many may not know about The Quail. A single ticket cost $1,300 last year for “legacy ticket holders.” It was $1,600 for first-time attendees. While that sounds expensive, OEMs spend approximately $400,000 to place a car on a stand there for six hours. The Las Vegas Concours charges about one-twentieth of that. If you want to attend, tickets are $100 each. That’s about $2 per Veyron. I spoke with three different car manufacturers who openly questioned the necessity of ever attending The Quail again. They mused whether Las Vegas and Moda Miami were sufficient. Moreover, for attendees, you won’t be facing heart-attack-inducing hotel prices (a friend stayed at a motel near Pebble that cost $1,100 a night, minimum five-night stay) nor running around from event to event in soul-crushing traffic. Making dinner reservations is also effortless, as Las Vegas is literally built to accommodate large gatherings. This may sound far-fetched, but just a few years ago, Geneva was the undisputed center of the supercar world. While I cannot predict the future, I can assure you that the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas is now at the top of my must-attend list. I highly recommend you add it to yours.
