The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas: A Game Changer in the Supercar Landscape For years, the automotive world has been dominated by a handful of iconic events. Pebble Beach has long been considered the pinnacle, the ultimate showcase of automotive elegance and engineering prowess. The Quail has carved out its own niche, particularly in the realm of modern hypercars, becoming a must-attend for those seeking the latest and most exclusive machines. But a new contender has emerged from the desert, and it’s challenging the old guard in ways that few ever thought possible. The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas has quickly transitioned from a regional affair to a global powerhouse, and the 2025 event solidified its status as a premier destination for car enthusiasts. This isn’t just another car show; it’s a cultural phenomenon, a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of luxury automotive. In this comprehensive analysis, we’ll delve into the nuances of this event, comparing it with its established peers and highlighting why it’s becoming the go-to destination for a new generation of collectors and enthusiasts. The Evolution of the Concours Landscape The definition of a “concours d’elegance” is a contest where vehicles are judged primarily on their appearance and presentation. Historically, these events have been a playground for the elite, a place where rare and historically significant automobiles gather for the admiration of the discerning. The Traditional Hierarchy For decades, the question has been: “Is this better than Pebble Beach?” The truth is, Pebble Beach remains the king of the concours. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held during Monterey Car Week, is the definitive event for collectors of classic and vintage cars. The Concours at Quail (full name, The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering) has carved out its own space, especially for those interested in modern hypercars. Many argue that The Quail has even surpassed Pebble in terms of appeal, particularly for the younger generation of collectors who prefer the cutting-edge technology and design of new-age supercars over classic automobiles.
However, the landscape is shifting. The demise of the Geneva International Motor Show left a void in the supercar calendar, and The Quail has stepped up to fill it. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in Geneva in 2016, but the Divo and Mistral were both debuted at The Quail. Similarly, the Temerario (Huracán’s successor) was first shown at The Quail in 2024, and the Fenomeno made its debut there in 2025. The Quail has become the global stage for these exclusive machines. The Las Vegas Disruption Until this past Halloween, I believed The Quail’s position in the automotive hierarchy was secure. Then I attended the 2025 Las Vegas Concours (officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas), and I found myself questioning the status quo. The 2024 Concours at Wynn was enjoyable, but it felt more like a regional event. There were some impressive cars, but nothing that stood out on a global scale. My attendance this year was largely driven by a project I was working on with Czinger (who brought me as their guest), but I am immensely grateful that I went. A Spectacle of Unprecedented Proportions The Wynn Las Vegas Concours 2025 was a sensory overload of automotive excellence. It was a gathering of some of the most exclusive and rare vehicles in the world, an event that transcended traditional boundaries and set a new standard for what a car show can be. The Bugatti Masterclass The Bugatti Veyron display was nothing short of astonishing. The Wynn Vegas Concours showcased an incredible 48 Veyrons on the lawn. To put that into perspective, only 450 Veyrons were ever produced, and 100 were sold in North America. The fact that 48 of these rare machines were present at one event is a feat in itself. Adding to the spectacle, Bugatti displayed a Bugatti Vitesse Super Sport to celebrate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, along with a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the upcoming Tourbillon (the 18-cylinder hybrid that will replace the Chiron). Displaying more than 10 percent of all Bugatti Veyrons ever built in one place is a testament to the Wynn Vegas Concours’s reach and influence. The Pagani Pilgrimage For the younger generation of collectors, Paganis are the holy grail. And the 2025 Las Vegas Concours did not disappoint. There were more than 40 Paganis on display, including several Zondas (including a Zonda Revolution, one of only five ever made), dozens of Huayras, a bunch of Utopias, and the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster. This limited-edition hypercar, priced at $7 million each before taxes and tariffs, is one of only 10 that Pagani plans to produce. The mint-green prototype displayed at the show belongs to Apple’s Tim Cook, further cementing the event’s elite status. Not only was the Wynn Vegas Concours 2025 the largest gathering of Paganis in North America, but it also served as the official debut for the Huayra Codalunga Speedster. This is a significant milestone, as it indicates that Horatio Pagani, the visionary founder of Pagani, chose this event to unveil his latest masterpiece. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours is clearly becoming a preferred venue for high-profile manufacturers seeking to make a statement. The Lamborghini Legacy If you’re a fan of Lamborghini, the 2025 Las Vegas Concours was a dream come true. It was the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever, with an estimated 230 cars on display. That’s 230 of the 600 cars present at the event, a truly staggering number. Among the collection were some of the rarest Lamborghinis ever made, including a Veneno Coupe (one of only three in public hands), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario Coupe (one of 20), a Centenario Convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time all these limited-edition models were seen together in the same place was at the factory’s museum. It was a breathtaking display of Italian automotive artistry.
The Supporting Cast While the Bugattis, Paganis, and Lamborghinis stole the show, the 2025 Las Vegas Concours had plenty of other spectacular vehicles to offer. We also saw Koenigseggs, Gumpert Apollo, Czingers, Nilu, the McLaren Project Endurance race car debut, a 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer (which had previously won Best of Show at Pebble), an HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. This collection of vehicles is a testament to the event’s prestige and its ability to attract some of the most exclusive and sought-after cars in the world. The Future of the Supercar World The 2025 Las Vegas Concours has raised the bar for supercar events, and the question on everyone’s mind is: “How are they going to top this next year?” No one knows the answer, but we wish the Wynn all the best. The Quail’s Dilemma Another intriguing question that kept coming up was: “Should we even bother doing The Quail next year?” Good question. Perhaps we should wish The Quail good luck, too. The Economics of Excellence When we talk about The Quail, we need to consider the economics. A single ticket cost $1,300 last year for “legacy ticket holders,” and $1,600 for first-time attendees. While this is expensive, it costs manufacturers about $400,000 to display a car at The Quail for six hours. In contrast, the Wynn Vegas Concours charges about 1/20th of that. For attendees, tickets are $100 a pop, which is about $2 per Veyron. I spoke with three different carmakers who openly questioned the need to ever attend The Quail again. They mused, perhaps Las Vegas and Moda Miami are enough? Moreover, for attendees, you won’t be paying heart-attack-inducing prices for hotels (a friend stayed at a motel near Pebble that was $1,100 a night, five-night minimum), nor running around from event to event in soul-crushing traffic. Also, making dinner reservations is easy because Las Vegas is literally built for big gatherings. The Verdict: A New King in the Desert The 2025 Las Vegas Concours might seem far-fetched, but just a few years ago, Geneva was the center of the supercar world. I can’t predict the future, but I can assure you that the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas is now on my must-attend list. You should stick it on yours, too. What Makes The Quail So Special?
