Lamborghini Temerario: The Fastest Gas Car Ever Tested
The Lamborghini Temerario is officially the fastest internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle MotorTrend has ever tested. With a scorching 9.58-second quarter-mile and a trap speed of 148.5 mph, this “starter” supercar from Lamborghini outpaces the 2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano by a mere 0.03 second. While certain electric vehicles—such as the Tesla Model S Plaid, the Lucid Air Sapphire, and some Porsche Taycan Turbo variants—can achieve faster drag strip times, they cannot replicate the sheer thrill and drama of the Lamborghini. The Temerario’s plug-in hybrid powertrain masterfully blends the instant low-end torque of its three electric motors with the sustained power of a twin-turbo, flat-plane-crank 4.0-liter V-8. This combination delivers a truly wild and exhilarating ride. Lamborghini remains the undisputed king of supercar theater. For maximum performance, drivers select Corsa handling mode and Performance powertrain mode via the steering-wheel-mounted knobs. Activating launch control—represented by a small checkered-flag button—sends the engine to 4,000 rpm before the car rockets forward with controlled fury. The Bridgestone Potenza Race tires scream off the line as the V-8 spins to its 10,250-rpm redline. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission executes a brutal yet efficient upshift into second, chirping the tires once more before the process repeats. How Fast Is the Lamborghini Temerario’s 0–60 MPH Time? To achieve a 9.6-second quarter-mile, a vehicle cannot be slow off the line. The Temerario blasts from 0–60 mph in just 2.2 seconds. While rapid, this figure does not top our list for gas-powered vehicles. The Lamborghini lands at third place, trailing the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano and the 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S. However, the lead is short-lived. It takes just 4.6 seconds to reach 100 mph, by which point the Lamborghini has pulled ahead of both the Ferrari and the Porsche. The Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Impacts Braking Distances
When it comes to shedding speed, the standard carbon-ceramic brakes haul the Temerario from 60 mph in 96 feet. This is respectable but nowhere near as impressive as its acceleration figures. The plug-in hybrid powertrain likely hinders braking performance rather than helping. Even equipped with the $84,100 Alleggerita package, which shaves 55 pounds, the car still weighs a portly 4,185 pounds. As with the acceleration times, increasing the speed puts the Lamborghini in the best possible light. Stopping from 100 mph in 266 feet, the Temerario ranks 12th among the thousands of vehicles MotorTrend has tested. How Does This Bull Perform in the Handling Arena? MotorTrend’s figure-eight course serves as the ultimate test of a car’s performance. By combining cornering, braking, and acceleration into a single lap, it reveals a vehicle’s dynamics through both objective and subjective metrics. When pushed to its limits, the Temerario gnaws corners with 1.14 g of grip on its way to a 22.3-second lap. This places it 0.7 second behind our record holder—which is, in fact, a three-way tie between the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, and the 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider. The “starter” Lamborghini’s lap time matches those set by the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, the 2025 Lucid Air Sapphire, and two lighter predecessors: the 2020 Huracán Evo AWD (3,645 pounds) and the 2021 Huracán STO (3,390 pounds). We like to frame the figure-eight result with a second metric: the average g-force exerted on the driver during the entire lap from acceleration, braking, and cornering. The Temerario’s 1.05 g means that for the entire lap, the driver is being pushed from behind, pulled forward by seatbelts, or pinned against the bolsters with forces stronger than gravity. Despite the remarkable performance metrics, arguably the most significant takeaway from this rigorous testing is that Lamborghini has not sacrificed driver experience in the pursuit of numbers. The Corsa mode keeps everything precise for focused, fast laps, but the car allows for playful yet easily controlled rotation in Sport mode. If that’s not aggressive enough, the three-stage Drift mode enables big slides. The Lamborghini Temerario is a cocktail of caffeine, adrenaline, and testosterone on four wheels. We will have much more to say about this exceptional supercar in our full road test soon.
