From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this operation is anything but ordinary. Czinger produces two versions of the 21C: the high-downforce, track-focused 21C and the wingless, long-tailed VMax. You have to sit with your legs facing outwards, pull your knees up, and tuck your feet into the footwell before sliding your head under the roof. The large sills are filled with batteries, each containing 2.2 kWh of power for a total of 4.4 kWh.
The seating arrangement in the VMax is unique. The driver sits in the center, with a passenger behind and slightly off to the side. While this configuration allows for a compact and aerodynamic design, it’s not ideal for passengers who are tall or have large calves. My XXL calves were wedged between the carbon-fiber tub and the carbon-fiber seat, and my feet didn’t fit well in the footwell.

The route consisted mostly of tight, winding roads with poor pavement, not the type of roads that are ideal for a hypercar. However, this was intentional. The rally was also a test of the VMax’s hybrid system. The car is not a plug-in hybrid, so the battery is charged by the mid-mounted V-8 engine. This system provides a seamless transition between electric and gasoline power, with the car seamlessly switching between the two modes without any noticeable lag.
One of the challenges of the Velocity Tour was the traffic. We were driving in a convoy, and there were times when we had to follow the pack, navigating to lunch and coffee stops, and hanging with the camera car. This was not the ideal way to experience the VMax, but it gave me a better understanding of what it’s like to live with the car.

While the Velocity Tour was primarily a road rally, we did make a stop at Laguna Seca for some parade laps. However, non-Czinger employees are not allowed to drive the VMax on the track, so I had to ride shotgun with a professional driver.

Even at 6/10ths of the pace, it was easy to understand why a Czinger 21C set five production car track records in five days. The car corners beautifully and has a prodigious amount of grip.
