The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas: A New Challenger to the Supercar Crown For years, the world of ultra-exclusive automotive gatherings has been dominated by a few storied events. When the conversation inevitably turns to “the best,” the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance often takes the top spot. However, in recent times, The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering has emerged as a formidable rival, particularly among enthusiasts of modern supercars and hypercars. But the automotive landscape is shifting, and a new contender has thrown its hat into the ring, potentially disrupting the established order. The Shifting Tides of Luxury Car Events The traditional definition of a concours d’elegance—a display or competition of vehicles and accessories judged primarily on their aesthetic excellence and presentation—has remained constant. Yet, the expectations and interests of the attendees have evolved. The younger demographic of high-net-worth individuals increasingly gravitates toward the latest and most extreme machines rather than vintage classics. This shift was particularly evident after the Geneva International Auto Show ceased operations. Geneva was once the epicenter for global debuts of top-tier supercars, but its demise left a vacuum in the annual calendar. The Quail has admirably filled this void, becoming the go-to venue for manufacturers like Lamborghini, Bugatti, and McLaren to unveil their most ambitious projects. Consider the Lamborghini Temerario, the Huracán’s successor, which made its first public appearance at The Quail in 2024. Even more recently, the Fenomeno, a seven-figure hypercar, debuted at the 2025 Quail. Similarly, Bugatti chose The Quail for the world premieres of the Divo in 2018 and the Mistral in 2022, even though the Chiron was launched in Geneva in 2016. These examples demonstrate that The Quail has cemented its reputation as the premier destination for the latest hypercar launches. The Surprising Arrival of the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas
Until this past Halloween, I assumed The Quail’s position at the pinnacle of the supercar world was unassailable. However, my experience at the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, held at the opulent Wynn resort, made me reconsider. Having attended the 2024 Vegas Concours, I found it enjoyable but largely provincial. It featured the usual suspects, and I likely wouldn’t have attended this year if I hadn’t been a guest of Czinger, the hypercar manufacturer. But I am profoundly glad I went. The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas has transformed from a niche regional event into a serious competitor to the industry giants. It’s more than just a show; it’s a global automotive spectacle that could redefine what constitutes a top-tier car event. The Spectacle: A World Record-Breaking Display What truly set the 2025 Las Vegas Concours apart was the sheer scale and audacity of the exhibits. The Bugatti display alone was enough to make any enthusiast’s jaw drop. The Wynn featured an astounding 48 Bugatti Veyrons on the lawn, an unprecedented gathering of this iconic hypercar. Considering the total production of 450 Veyrons and only 100 sold in North America, having nearly 11% of all Veyrons ever built in one location is staggering. To add to the spectacle, Bugatti brought along a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to celebrate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary. They also showcased a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the upcoming Tourbillon, the 18-cylinder hybrid successor to the Chiron. This concentrated display of Bugatti’s lineage and future is something no other event has achieved. The Pagani Phenomenon Younger enthusiasts are often passionate about Pagani vehicles, and the Vegas Concours did not disappoint. There were more than 40 Paganis on display, a number exceeding the factory’s entire annual production. While I didn’t get an exact count—I was too captivated by the Veyrons—the collection included several Zondas, including a rare Zonda Revolution (one of only five built). Dozens of Huayras, numerous Utopias, and the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster were also present. Horacio Pagani, the visionary founder of Pagani Automobili, was honored on stage by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to automotive design. The choice to debut a new vehicle at this event speaks volumes about its growing prestige. The Huayra Codalunga Speedster, planned for a limited run of 10 units at $7 million each, was unveiled to the world in Vegas. Notably, the mint-green example displayed under wraps belongs to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook. The fact that The Quail, the long-standing leader, and now The Concours at Wynn, are both vying for the attention of manufacturers like Pagani shows that the competition is hotter than ever. A Gathering of Lamborghini Legends If you’re a fan of Italian exotica, the Lamborghini section was equally mind-blowing. The 2025 Wynn Las Vegas Concours hosted the largest gathering of Lamborghinis in history. While the exact number was estimated to be around 230 out of the 600 total cars present, this number represents a significant portion of the event’s total footprint. The collection featured rare and valuable models that are rarely seen together. Among them were a Veneno Coupe (one of only three publicly sold; the factory kept the fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario Coupe and Convertible (one of 20 each), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time I witnessed all these highly limited models in one place was at the Lamborghini factory museum, and the Vegas display was just as breathtaking. An Unforgettable Assortment of Exotics
While the Bugatti, Pagani, and Lamborghini displays were spectacular, the event’s strength lies in its sheer variety. In an effort to maintain brevity, I won’t list every incredible car, but the collection included a stunning Koenigsegg selection, a Gumpert Apollo, Czingers, Nilu, the debut of the McLaren Project Endurance race car, and several vehicles that were actually judged. For example, the event featured a former Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer 26/120/180, which took home the best pre-war award this year. Other notable inclusions were the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. This array of cars demonstrates that the Vegas Concours is not just about new hypercars; it’s a comprehensive celebration of automotive excellence across all eras. The competition for top honors was fierce, with many exceptional vehicles vying for the judges’ attention. The Future of Automotive Gatherings Two questions were consistently asked throughout the 2025 Las Vegas Concours. The first, asked by many attendees, was: “How are they going to top this next year?” While I have no clue, I wish the organizers the best of luck. The second question was even more intriguing, coming from the OEMs themselves: “Should we even bother attending The Quail next year?” This is a valid question. Perhaps it’s time to extend the same good wishes to The Quail. Consider the economics of these events. A single ticket for The Quail cost $1,300 last year for legacy holders and $1,600 for new attendees. For manufacturers, exhibiting a car at The Quail costs around $400,000 for just six hours. In contrast, the Vegas Concours charges only about 1/20th of that. Tickets for attendees are $100 each, which amounts to approximately $2 per Veyron! I spoke with three different carmakers who openly questioned the necessity of returning to The Quail. They suggested that perhaps Las Vegas and Moda Miami are enough. Beyond the financial considerations, the attendee experience is significantly better at the Wynn. You won’t face soul-crushing traffic as you race from event to event in Monterey, nor will you pay exorbitant hotel prices (a friend stayed at a motel near Pebble that cost $1,100 per night, with a five-night minimum). Furthermore, making dinner reservations is easy in Las Vegas, as the city is fundamentally designed to handle large gatherings. While this might seem far-fetched, it’s worth remembering that the Geneva International Auto Show was once the global center of the supercar world. I can’t predict the future, but I can assure you that the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas is now on my must-attend list. You should add it to yours as well. Discover the Future of Luxury Automotive Events
