The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas: A New Benchmark in Supercar Excellence The term “concours d’elegance” traditionally defines a display or competition of vehicles judged primarily on their aesthetic quality and presentation. For those immersed in the elite segment of the automotive industry, a perennial question arises: Which event surpasses the esteemed Pebble Beach Concours? The latter, commonly understood as the encompassing Monterey Car Week, features a myriad of gatherings culminating in the premier concours on Sunday. This week-long showcase represents a pinnacle of wealth and performance in the automotive world. However, participants often debate whether The Quail, The Goodwood Festival of Speed, or other major events eclipse Pebble Beach. The truth is, the Pebble Beach Concours remains the undisputed king of concours events. Yet, a strong contender for the throne has emerged: The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas. This prestigious event has rapidly ascended the ranks, positioning itself as a serious rival to The Quail, particularly for enthusiasts of modern and limited-production supercars and hypercars.
Why The Quail’s Dominance Is Being Challenged The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering has historically served as a captivating prelude to the Sunday proceedings at the Pebble Beach Concours. However, for a growing segment of automotive enthusiasts, The Quail has long overshadowed the main event. These collectors and fans are primarily drawn to high-end, brand-new supercars and hypercars. Countless friends attending Monterey Car Week have expressed indifference toward the classic, pre-war automobiles showcased at Pebble Beach on Sunday, often departing earlier in the weekend. Furthermore, the closure of the Geneva International Auto Show has left a significant void in the supercar launch calendar. The Quail has adeptly stepped in to fill this space. Historically, manufacturers chose Geneva for their most exclusive global debuts. The Lamborghini Aventador, for instance, first appeared at Geneva in 2011, and the ultra-exclusive Veneno in 2013. While the Aventador’s successor, the Revuelto, debuted via an online stream, the Huracán’s replacement, the Temerario, was first unveiled at The Quail in 2024. Similarly, the seven-figure Fenomeno made its debut at The Quail in 2025. Bugatti introduced the Chiron in Geneva in 2016, but the Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) both made their world premieres at The Quail. Numerous other high-end vehicles have followed this pattern, solidifying The Quail’s position as the premier showcase for these elite machines. Until recently, The Quail’s dominance seemed secure. However, attending the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, revealed a compelling new competitor. The previous year’s Vegas Concours, while enjoyable, felt more localized. While there were some impressive vehicles, they were largely familiar faces. The event’s significance grew when I attended as a guest of Czinger, a manufacturer I was working with. Reflecting on the experience, I am profoundly grateful for having been there. The Magnitude of the Wynn Las Vegas Concours The Wynn Las Vegas Concours featured an unprecedented collection of 48 Bugatti Veyrons. To contextualize this remarkable feat: out of 450 Veyrons ever built and only 100 sold in North America, an astonishing 48 were present in Las Vegas. The manufacturer also displayed a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to commemorate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, alongside a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the forthcoming 18-cylinder hybrid Tourbillon, set to succeed the Chiron. The mere presence of more than ten percent of all Bugatti Veyrons ever produced remains a head-spinning display of automotive history. Younger enthusiasts are equally captivated by the Paganis. The event hosted more than 40 Paganis, including several Zondas (including a Zonda Revolution, one of only five ever built), dozens of Huayras, a collection of Utopias, and—worryingly for The Quail—the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster. Pagani plans to produce only 10 of these exquisite machines at a price of $7 million each before tax and tariffs. (The mint-green example under cover belongs to Apple’s Tim Cook). Even if these ultra-exotic, carbon-titanium vehicles aren’t your particular interest, the significance of the event cannot be overstated. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours was not only the largest gathering of Paganis in North American history but also the venue chosen by Horatio Pagani to introduce a new vehicle to the world. Mr. Pagani, who was honored onstage by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to car design, chose this platform to unveil his latest creation. More on that in a moment. A collection of over 40 Paganis represents more vehicles than the factory produces in an entire year. The Lamborghini display was equally astonishing for enthusiasts of Italian hypercars. The 2025 Wynn Vegas Concours featured the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever assembled. While the exact number wasn’t officially counted, estimates placed the figure at around 230 vehicles, representing a substantial portion of the 600 cars displayed that Saturday. This gathering was truly mind-blowing. Among these 230 vehicles were a Veneno Coupe (one of only three public production models; the factory retained a fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario Coupe (one of 20) and Convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time all these extremely rare “few-offs,” as Lamborghini now terms them, were brought together in one place was at the factory museum. It was a breathtaking spectacle of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites. In the interest of brevity, I will omit mentions of the impressive Koenigsegg collection, the Gumpert Apollo, the Czingers, the Nilu, the debut of the McLaren Project Endurance race car, and all the judged entries (including a stunning former Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer that won best in show for pre-war vehicles at this event as well). The show also featured an HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. This lineup constitutes an extraordinary automotive showcase.
Future Trends and The Quail’s Resilience Two conversations dominated the discussions among attendees at the Wynn Vegas Concours. The primary question was: “How on earth will they top this next year?” The organizers have their work cut out for them, but I wish them the best of luck. The second question, arguably more compelling, came from several OEM carmakers: “Should we even bother attending The Quail next year?” This is a valid inquiry. Perhaps it is time to bid The Quail a fond farewell. A significant difference lies in the cost of attendance. A single ticket for The Quail last year cost $1,300 for legacy attendees (those who had attended in the past) and $1,600 for first-time visitors. While these prices are steep, manufacturers invest approximately $400,000 to display a car at The Quail for six hours. The Las Vegas Concours, by contrast, charges about one-twentieth of that fee. Tickets for general admission are only $100 each, translating to roughly $2 per Veyron. Several manufacturers I spoke with openly questioned the necessity of returning to The Quail. They pondered whether Las Vegas and Moda Miami might be sufficient. Moreover, for attendees, the oppressive hotel prices and soul-crushing traffic that plague Pebble Beach are absent in Las Vegas. Securing dinner reservations is remarkably easy, as Las Vegas is fundamentally designed to accommodate large gatherings. The shift in the automotive landscape is palpable. Just a few years ago, Geneva was the undisputed epicenter of the supercar world. While the future is always uncertain, the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas has firmly established itself on my must-attend list. You should add it to yours as well.
