Lamborghini Temerario: The Fastest Gas-Powered Car Tested by MotorTrend
The Lamborghini Temerario has officially claimed the title of the quickest vehicle with an internal combustion engine ever tested by MotorTrend. Lambo’s 907-hp “entry-level” supercar achieved a blazing 9.58-second quarter-mile time with a 148.5-mph trap speed, edging out the 2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano by a mere 0.03 second. Of course, there are electric vehicles that can outperform the Temerario in direct competition. The Tesla Model S Plaid, the Lucid Air Sapphire, and several variants of the Porsche Taycan Turbo have all posted faster results in MotorTrend’s testing. However, none of them can match the pure drama and emotion delivered by the Lamborghini. The Temerario’s plug-in hybrid powertrain expertly blends the instant low-end torque of three electric motors with the sustained top-end power of a twin-turbo, flat-plane-crank 4.0-liter V-8, creating an intoxicating thrill ride. Lamborghini’s Masterclass in Supercar Theater Lamborghini excels at creating supercar theater. For the fastest runs, drivers select the Corsa handling mode and Performance powertrain mode using the steering wheel-mounted knobs, then press the small checkered-flag button to activate launch control. Holding both pedals down, the engine revs to 4,000 rpm before rocketing off with controlled fury. All four Bridgestone Potenza Race tires scream off the line as the V-8 climbs to 10,250 rpm, and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission executes a brutally efficient upshift into second. The tires chirp again, and the entire process repeats. How Fast Is the Lamborghini Temerario’s 0–60 MPH? Achieving a 9.6-second quarter mile requires explosive acceleration from a standstill. The Temerario launches to 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds. While incredibly quick, this isn’t enough to be the absolute fastest among gas-powered vehicles. The Lamborghini lands in third place on our all-time records for internal combustion engine vehicles, trailing the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano and the 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S. However, you won’t have to wait long to take the lead. It only takes 4.6 seconds to reach 100 mph, by which point the Lamborghini has already pulled ahead of both the Ferrari and the Porsche.
The Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Impacts Braking Distances When it’s time to scrub speed, the standard carbon-ceramic brakes haul the Temerario to a stop from 60 mph in 96 feet. This is respectable but not nearly as spectacular as the acceleration. The plug-in hybrid powertrain likely hinders braking performance more than it helps. Our test vehicle was equipped with the $84,100 Alleggerita package, which shaves 55 pounds, yet the car still weighed a substantial 4,185 pounds. Similar to the acceleration times, increasing the velocity puts the Lamborghini in its best light. Stopping from 100 mph in 266 feet, the Temerario places in a three-way tie for 12th on our list of thousands of tested vehicles. How Does the Bull Handle on the Figure Eight? MotorTrend’s figure-eight course is the ultimate performance test, combining cornering, braking, and acceleration into a single lap that reveals a car’s dynamics in both objective and subjective terms. When pushed to its limits, the Temerario grips the pavement with 1.14 g of lateral acceleration on its way to a 22.3-second lap. This places it 0.7 second behind our record holder, which is actually a three-way tie between the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, and the 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider. The “starter” Lamborghini’s lap matches times set by the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, the 2025 Lucid Air Sapphire, and two lighter predecessors, the 2020 Huracán Evo AWD (3,645 pounds) and the 2021 Huracán STO (3,390 pounds). We like to provide a second metric for the figure-eight—the average g-force from acceleration, braking, and cornering experienced over the entire lap. The Temerario’s 1.05 g means that throughout the lap, you are constantly being pushed from behind, pressed against the seat belt, or pinned against the bolster with more force than gravity exerts on your body on this planet.
As impressive as the Temerario’s performance is, the most significant takeaway from testing this car is that Lamborghini has not sacrificed the exhilarating experience in its pursuit of top numbers. The Corsa mode keeps everything in check for focused fast laps, but the Lamborghini unleashes its wild side in Sport mode with playful yet easily controlled rotation. If that’s still not extreme enough, the three-stage Drift mode sets you up for big slides. The Lamborghini Temerario is a potent cocktail of caffeine, adrenaline, and testosterone on four wheels. We’ll have more to share about this incredible machine in a full road test soon.
